As a general rule the manufacturer is responsible for CE marking machines according to the EU directive 2006/42/EC.
The CE marking indicates that a product is controlled and complies with the requirements it requires to sell it on a defined market. The CE marking also includes product groups under the machinery directive.

CE-Marking and Directives in general
Pursuant to Article 118a of the Treaty (Council Directive of 12 June 1989 “Framework Directive 89/391 / EEC”), by the adoption of directives, the Council is required to adopt minimum requirements with a view to improving, in particular, the working environment in order to ensure a higher level of protection for the workers security and health.
Directives apply to all types of private and public activities (industry, agriculture, commerce, administration, services, education, cultural activities, recreation, etc.). However, there are some exceptions in the directives depending on their scope of application.
The main purpose of these directives is
- Promote workplace safety and health
- Free movement between the EU states

As a rule, it is the manufacturer’s responsibility to risk assess and CE mark their machines according to EU Directive 2006/42 / EC.
